I originally built it for myself to get off my Adobe subscription, but decided to release it for free and make it open source. It has all the essential tools I need for compositing, with none of the BS.
I know this workflow is kind of archaic in 2026, but I’m still using it until AI can actually get pixel-perfect on some of the details.
The entire app is 12MB. Photoshop is 6,455MB on my machine.

Photopea is an exact replica of every Photoshop features, directly in browser and for free (ads can be disabled either with blockers or by paying a ridiculously small one time fee). Why wasting time ans ressources vibecoding another clone? Genuine question

Like Robbie I struggle with GIMP because of years over-training myself in Pshop. For the hopeful few on Linux I looked into it with Claude Code, unfortunately this leverages lots of apple-only frameworks so it would be a do-over, not a port.

These basic functions are more than sufficient for most people. With such a significant difference in file size between the two software packages, I'd definitely prioritize Compositor.

blend mode math is what kills these. in my motion days i built a compositor pass for a project and soft-light alone took a week most canvas impls follow W3C spec, photoshop doesn't, and you only find out when the comp looks subtly wrong.
