The Graphene Foundation confirmed this week that the Motorola Signature 27 will become its first officially supported non-Pixel smartphone.

The privacy-focused Android OS has historically supported only Google Pixel phones. Earlier this year, Motorola announced a partnership with GrapheneOS that would bring the platform to its own smartphones. But it wasn't clear which model would see GrapheneOS first.

On an X post this Wednesday, one user asked whether the Motorola Signature 27 would support GrapheneOS. The Graphene Foundation replied: "Yes, that will be the initial supported phone. Wait for official news about it."

The Motorola Signature 27 uses the brand-new flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. Motorola has promised seven Android OS upgrades and up to seven years of security updates, matching GrapheneOS's hardware security and software update needs.

But GrapheneOS selects devices based on more than just chipset performance; otherwise, funnily enough, Google Pixels would have been the last on the list. The project needs secure boot, rollback protection, hardware security, updates, and vendor support. It also lists features like memory safety, secure storage, full encryption, and regular updates.

Neither the Graphene Foundation nor Motorola has shared any details about the Motorola Signature 27's pricing, though it's expected to hit shelves by the end of the year.
