Oil Rises as Strait of Hormuz Talks Stall

Oil prices moved higher as traders reacted to renewed uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy chokepoints.

Iran had proposed reopening the strait within seven days if the U.S. eased military pressure and lifted certain restrictions. President Donald Trump rejected the proposal, leaving negotiations unresolved and raising concerns that normal shipping flows could remain disrupted.

Earlier this week, Brent crude was trading near $99.94 per barrel, while WTI was around $95.43, as markets weighed the possibility of prolonged tensions and supply constraints.

Why does Hormuz matter so much?

Roughly one-fifth of global oil and natural-gas shipments pass through the strait during normal conditions, meaning even temporary disruption can quickly affect supply expectations, shipping costs, and crude prices.

What traders are watching

• U.S.–Iran negotiations

• Strait of Hormuz shipping flows

• Brent and WTI price movement

• Regional military developments

• Global inflation pressure

• Energy supply alternatives

PredX is also tracking a related crude-oil market, with the screenshot showing 11% “Yes” at the time captured. That reflects current market expectations, not a guaranteed outcome.

The key takeaway: oil is reacting not only to current supply, but to the risk that one of the world’s most important energy routes remains restricted.
