Aisle Map · 1986 → 2026
Four decades, four aisles.
The short version of how a floppy-drive engineer's side hustle became a Silicon Valley landmark, closed, and is now being rebuilt for a new generation of tinkerers.
1ORIGIN
1986
An engineer, a warehouse, a truckload of "trash"
Founded by a former engineer at floppy-drive maker Shugart Associates, after watching perfectly good hardware get tossed the moment a product line ended.
2PEAK
1990s–2000s
27,000 sq ft of everything
The dot-com boom flooded the aisles with surplus. Engineers, students, and startups treated the place like a free walk-through of computing history — with a price tag.
3CLOSURE
April 2018
The lease ran out
Nearby expansion by a major tech campus took the property. After 32 years, the doors closed for what everyone assumed was the last time.
4REVIVAL
2026
Back online, based in San Jose
Same appetite for the strange, the surplus, and the salvageable — now an online store backed by a warehouse in San Jose, CA. Browse the inventory, then set up an appointment to pick it up.
